CAMBRIDGE FREE FIGHT INFORMATION

Cambridge Free Fight has helped produce champions and class fighters in the fighting arts of MMA, Submission Wrestling and Muay Thai. It's members are all trained to the highest standards, whether they want to compete at competition level or just want to gain some fitness and self-defence skills. The trainers are experienced fighters themselves, training and competing internationally

With 5 champions to date(and more on the way), Cambridge Free Fight is one of the top MMA clubs in the uk.

Vale-Tudo style martial arts have gained major prominence in the last ten years. The term Vale-Tudo is a Portuguese word and is translated as "anything goes". Vale-Tudo was originally only seen in Brazil, where the legendary Gracie family developed Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Vale Tudo would enter America with the Ultimate Fighting Championships. This pay per view television show would forever change martial arts worldwide.

To train in Vale-Tudo, fighters learn how to strike(both standing and on the ground), Clinch, Takedown/Throw, and Ground submission techniques. UK competition Rules vary from show to show but the fight usually takes place in a ring or a cage. The fighters wear small gloves which don't interfere with any of the grappling techniques. The fights start standing in which the fighters are allowed all techniques of Muay Thai(Punch Kick Knee Elbows to body and head) plus any takedown/submission wrestling techniques. Once of the floor the fighters are allowed to carry on striking or use submission wrestling techniques in order to try and finish the fight. The fight is won by either a knock-out, Submission, or Referee stoppage. If the fight goes the distance the decision may go to the judges although some shows automatically call the fight a draw.

Depending on the history and body shape of the fighters, you get different styles of fighter:
Strikers prefer to try and keep the fight standing by using spawl techniques (used to prevent a takedown) and hope to KO the opponent. Ground and Pounders will take the fight to the ground and gain a position of dominance in which they can keep striking at will eventually wearing the opponent down into a submission.
Submission fighters will take the fight to the ground and try to submit a opponent using a submission wrestling hold(armlocks, leglocks, chokes)
All the good fighters nowadays cross train which allows them to cope in any of the different fight ranges. Thai Boxing, Boxing, Judo, Wrestling, Brazilian Jiujitsu are all fighting disciplines which the fighter can train in.

Mixed Martial Arts(Ultimate fighting) is gaining big popularity in the UK. The Ultimate fighting Championship 38 was held at the Royal Albert Hall a few years ago and it was a sell out. These shows are now also shown on SKY TV.
