MMA interclub in Birmingham:
Shaun and Colm acheived second place in the U93
and U70kg categories and Billy got 3rd in the heavy weights.
Shaun KO'ed his first opponent cold with a big right overhand.
Colm was in charge of the final fight right up to the last moment. Looked
really good in the grapple all the way through his fights.
Billy was a bit unfortunate having to fight a guy straight after Billy's
first win who had just been given a pass into the next round and so was
still quite tired. Marek did well for his first time out too but didn't
get the decisions. Check out the photos on the photos page.
Cage Rage Contenders:
Afnan is fighting Dean Bray on the next Cage Rage
Contenders in November. Get your tickets now as it will be a sell out

Xmas Holidays
Training will be off from Weds the 21st December
to 3rd January(Starting on that Tuesday). We've had a lot of enquiries
about training so please only bring beginners to the Tuesday or Thurday
sessions, as these will be better for them building up the fitness and
technique before moving on to the more advanced sessions.
Personal Training
Starting again in January we will be doing personal
training sessions(both fitness/nutrition OR MMA instruction). So if anyone
wishes to lose weight, gain muscle, get fit, improve their MMA please
email for details.(A program design can also be emailed to you if you

Cage Rage
Cage Rage was a sell out show on the 3rd December
with fighters such as Vitor Belfort and Anderson Silva topping the show.

full results. Robbie Olivier from Tsunami gym won his fight against Chris
Freeborne dominating all 3 rounds. Dana White (the UFC presidant) and

for further details.
Training
Don't forget that the Wednesday and Saturday training
classes are for people who have MMA experience (or Muay Thai/submission
experience) as this is generally a fighters class. Tuesday and Thursday
classes are a mixture of technique and fitness classes(so as a beginner
you should be starting here- not to say that the pro fighters shouldn't
be training here though). We have added Circuits in on a Tuesday class
to make sure everyone continues to improve their fitness. Check the training
times for the other days we train.

Afnan Saeed fought MMA on Lee Johnson's Extreme
Fighting Show at the Circus Tavern on the 29th May. His opponent was a
JKD/boxing instructor Owen Ogbourne from Bob Breen's academy. Both fighters
looked in good shape and the fight started with quick exchanges of Thai
techniques standing. It went to the ground briefly and in about 4 minutes
of the first round Afnan caught Owen in a straight armbar as he tried
getting out of Afnan's guard to stand up.
Alenka Hola won the European Kickboxing title in
Bratslavia. Her opponent out weighed her by 3 kilos but Alenka still managed
to gain a convincing points win. This fight was fought under low kick
Rules.

On the 20th March Colm Gillane fought Thai Boxing

|| 28th February 05 ||
On the 27th February Colm Gillane fought Thai Boxing
as the main event on a Thai and Kickboxing show in Ilkeston just outside
Nottingham. Colm's opponent was from the home town and so the crowd were
cheering for him. The first round started at a fast pace with Colm throwing
lots of kicks and then with seconds to go in the 1st Colm put down his
opponent with a knee to the body. The bell went saving his opponent. The
second round started with Colm attacking with punches as well as his kicks
then a front kick to the face from Colm put down his opponent again. The
ref then stopped the fight as Colm's opponent couldn't continue leaving
Colm as the winner after KO.

Beginners and Technique classes in MMA are now
taking place on Tuesday nights at Morley Primary School at 7pm. These
classes are open to anyone above the age of 16 and the emphasis is more
on learning technique rather than sparring and fitness(which occur on
other days)
Anyone who wants tickets for Tom's MMA fight on
the 6th March should get them ASAP from Tom. Should be a good night.
All fighters who train with CFF need to supplement
their training at CFF with weight/strenth training and fitness/flexibility
work. Ask instructors for more info. Weight training is very important
for mma alongside a proper diet to maintain/increase lean muscle mass.
This type of training will prevent injuries and will help increase power
during striking and strength during wrestling. It will definitely not
slow you down if done right as many people believe, It's also a good method
to lose fat as more muscle means you are burning more calories.

Alenka Hola won her second Thai Boxing fight on
points on the K-Star show in Birminham last night. She fought 'Bonnie'
from South Africa, now training with Winston Fraser from the Sniper gym.
The other girl was heavier and quite a bit taller but Alenka took the
fight to her and had the higher workrate. In the final round Alenka caught
Bonnie with a real hard head kick which dazed her opponent but Alenka
hadn't the energy to finish her off. It was the fight of the night and
all the crowd were cheering the fight on!!
Afnan Saeed is set to face Anwar on the Thai show
in Leicester square at the end of November.

|| 10th October 04 ||
Cambridge Freefight was showcased on television
when two of it’s Muay Thai fighters were shown competing on the
sky sports channel. Alenka Hola and Colm Gillane’s fights at the
Elephant and Castle show were both shown. Alenka competed against a opponent
who was at least 5 kilos heavier and performed well to start with until
the weight advantage proved to be too much in the clinch. The fight(for
the English title) was stopped in the 3rd giving the win to Alenka’s
opponent, Bernise from Keddles Gym. Colm easily won his fight for the
southern area title against his opponent also from Keddles. He dominated
the fight in all areas and won every round.

Colm Gillane is the new Southern Area title holder
in Muay Thai for Cambridge Freefight. He easily won his fight on points
against his opponent from Keddles gym. Colm weighed in lighter than usual
at 67kgs but looked very strong during his fight. Colm is looking to move
into mma in the near future. Alenka Hola lost her first proper Thai fight
on knees. Her opponent weighed in about 3-4 kgs heavier and this weight
difference proved too much in the clinch. These fights took place at the
Elephant and Castle fusion centre on the 15th August and will be shown
on sky sports in the near future.

|| 18th July 04 ||
Murilo 'Ninja' Rua is coming over to do another
seminar in Cambridge on the 30th October.
----
|| 28th March 04 ||
The Thai gym show was held at reading boxing club
and quite a few people were there watching. The first guy up from Cambridge
Free fight was Colm Gillane. His opponent weighed in heavy and so it was
a 4 kg weight difference. This fight just set the rest of the show off.
From round one they both went for it and at one point the ref even had
trouble pulling them off each other. Colm was hurting his opponent's leg
with some good low kicks. The decision went to the other guy though just
cos he was taller/heavier he could pull Colms head down in the clinch.
A couple more rounds and I think it may have been different as Colm was
the fitter of the two as well.
Alenka Hola's opponent withdrew due to a injury
so she ended up doing a demo fight with a guy. She threw the first technique
which was a strong headkick with nearly knocked him down. He came back
and kicked a low shot foul after which the ref needed to give Alenka a
few seconds to recover. They both went for it again and the fight was
even up to the second round when the ref stopped it and called it a draw
because he said it was getting too rough!
You could even hear the guys trainer saying' Just cos she's a girl don't
take it easy!!'
Linh Nguyen fought a tall opponent from the Reading
gym. Linh totally outclassed him and was even dancing in the first round!
Lin was getting through with somestrong punches and kicks and was also
controlling the clinch. The fight went to a easy points decision to Linh.
Quite a entertaining show really!!!with good performances
from CFF.

|| 14th March 04 ||
Spenser Lee had two fights in the KSBO competition
held in Nottingham. He won his first fight by decision and lost his second
fight by decision although this was due to bad judgement by the judges.
Spenser was in total control of this fight and nobody knows why the decision
was given to his opponent!

Robbie Oliver vs Marcio -Cromado- Barbosa(Brazil).
Robbie is defending his UMMMAC lightweight title against Cromado from
Brazil on the 29th February. Cromado beat Caol Uno by submission, lost
to Rumino Sato by judges decision amongst other top fighters and has a
bit of a reputation in Brazil, not that Robbie is worried! He is indeed
excited by the futures prospects that this fight could offer.
Training starts again this Tuesday...

|| 29th June 03 ||
Afnan Saeed fought a cage kickboxing (with low
kicks) fight on the Extreme Brawl show at Bracknell. Afnan fought a kickboxer
named Rob O'Donnel at 69kilos. This fight was a bit unusual for Afnan
as he usually fights Thai Boxing in a ring, and in this fight you weren't
allowed to Knee strike or elbow. Afnan came out very strong and in the
first 30secs caught Rob with a powerful head kick which knocked him down.
From that moment on Rob was out on his feet and Afnan went on the attack
with lots of boxing combos and after 55 secs the referee jumped in and
stopped the fight as Rob couldn't defend himself.

|| 21st June 03 ||
